José Carreras in Prague

(01.12.2014)

After three years José Carreras returned to Prague and appeared as the main star of the Benefit Concert for the The Endowment Fund for Children's Health.

Although the tickets were not on pre-sale, the O2 arena saw the full house.  José Carreras' comeback concerts after his fight with leukemia didn't mean only his return to the stage; it was also his return to life, what delighted the audience. And what an exultant return this turned out to be.

The evening consisted of two parts. In the first half, the violinist Vanessa Mae accompanied by her own rock band and a chamber choir put the audience in a good mood. After the break, the Czech National Symphony Orchestra conducted by David Gimenez accompanied the main star of the program, which included Spanish and Italian songs. An Irish operatic soprano Celine Byrne, the guest of this wonderful program, sang several duets with Mr. Carreras, mainly from Spanish zarzuelas (similar to operetta or musical). The duet from Verdi's La Traviata occurred among the amazing total of six encores.

Carreras performance remains still fully professional.
