James Horner

A fall from high straight into heaven’s musical hall of fame….
We have played his music on numerous occasions – always with great love. The last occasion was in Berlin performing his famous Titanic, for which, following a great many repeated and unsuccessful nominations, he eventually received two Oscars. With more than a hundred film music contributions to his name, the man, inspired most of all by Jerry Goldsmith and John Williams, ranks among one of the most diligent composers to have ever lived. To list but a few, he wrote the score to Avatar, Troy, Alien, Braveheart, Legends of the Fall, Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind, The Windtalkers and many, many more. Alongside James Cameron, he had spent the last few years primarily working with Mel Gibson and Ron Howard. Few people are aware that his father was a Czech guy, originally from Holice….Each time the conductor’s baton launches the first notes of his pieces, let us remember James Horner’s passing just after the launch of the 2015 Prague Proms season.
